GOOD PAYING JOBS WITH BENEFITS
I grew up watching my mother work hard every single day as a school bus driver. It was honest work. It helped provide for our family. But it didn’t come with health insurance. It didn’t come with a retirement plan. And the reality is, too many people in Kansas City are still in that same position today.
Working hard should be enough. It should come with stability. It should come with dignity. It should come with a future you can actually plan for. That is the standard I believe in.
Economic development cannot just be about buildings going up or big announcements. It has to be about people. It has to mean that when our city grows, Kansas Citians grow with it. That means connecting residents to jobs that pay well, offer benefits, and create long-term stability - real carreer pathways.
We have a chance right now to get this right. Kansas City is seeing real economic momentum and rapid, exponential growth. The question is whether our residents are positioned to benefit from it. My focus is making sure they are.
That starts early. We are building pipelines that connect young people directly to careers in the skilled trades, construction, and public service, so students can graduate with a clear path to a good-paying job.
It continues with how we approach development. Growth should come with expectations. If you are building in Kansas City, you should be hiring Kansas Citians, paying fair wages, and contributing to the long-term strength of our workforce. And it means expanding opportunity in places that have historically been left out, making sure economic growth is not concentrated in a few areas, but shared across our city.
The vision I share with many of you is that Kansas Citians need to be able to build lives, buy homes, support their families, and retire with dignity.
I am focused on creating stability, creating opportunity, and building a city where hard work actually pays off
